Our Programs

Weekly mentoring

SEEK leads weekly science, technology, engineering, and mathematics based projects at high risk elementary and middle schools in the Austin area. Example projects include building helicopters, making ice cream, and designing roller coasters. Each of our members forms close relationships with their mentees while building these projects throughout the semester. After ten weeks of projects, students are brought to UT Austin to tour the campus and participate in fun engineering activities.

THINKERY & VOLUNTEERING EVENTS

The Thinkery is an Austin-based children’s museum aimed at engaging children and families in science through fun and interactive activities. SEEK regularly volunteers here, engaging the community in projects similar to those done at schools. SEEK also participates in volunteer events such as Girl Day, Cockrell Welcome Day of Service, Gone to Engineering, and more!

UT AUSTIN TOURS

To wrap up the semester, SEEK hosts campus tours during the last week of classes. During the tours, mentees of the elementary and middle schools travel to the UT Austin campus. SEEK mentors show the mentees around the UT engineering buildings, participate in engineering activities with other engineering organizations, and end the day with pizza. This tour serves as a glimpse of college life for the mentees, showing that it is an attainable path.

Socials

In order to develop teamwork and thank our mentors for all their hard work, SEEK hosts social gatherings throughout each semester. Mentors are encouraged to attend these socials in order to meet student engineers in other groups and learn from the experiences each member has had.
